A step forward and a step back
Nov. 5th, 2008 03:08 amA few hours ago I was watching Barack Obama give his acceptance speech in a grand hall full of people screaming out for change and for hope and for new ideals. It's dizzying in scope to think just how much could be accomplished now, if we hold to this sort of indomitable spirit.
And yet, I've just heard that Prop 8, effectively banning gay marriage in California, has passed. It puts into perspective just how difficult it's going to be to create change in a country where people are so easily swayed by irrational fear and ignoble beliefs.
