How many have your name?

My name is incredibly common. So much so that I've thought of changing it a couple times....but I've gotten used to my name as it is now, so I'm going to stick with it. In freshman year of high school, I had class with a girl with my same first and last name, except she was loud, outgoing, heavyset, and black. It was like having an opposite world version of myself sitting a few chairs over.

Mine SAYS 194, but I'm positive that isn't right, because there are 230+ on Facebook alone.

Yeah, I'm sure that the actual number is a lot higher.

Apparently there are only 35 people with my RL name. I distrust their dataset too.

Actually I'd believe it in my case. All the people listed on FB with my last name are relatives...and my first name is rare as hell to begin with...the spelling at least.

Ha, I like how yours says "1 or fewer".

well it's not like I'm 'there' all the time. ^^

Ahahaha I got a 5 total, which is interesting since there were like 33,000+ on my first name and 55,000+ on my last name. I guess the combination of the two is just what's rare.

I got a three. And I know there are two other people out there with my name: I've googled it and one is a TX beauty queen and one raises scottish terriers or something.

But anyway, their methodology is faulty; they assume that first and last names are independent. Which I don't believe. So they multiply the empirical probability of your first name times the empirical probability of your last name, then take the result times the US population to get their estimate. Whereas for example, if your last name is O'Hare you are probably more likely to be named Patrick, etc. knowing a last or first name can probably give you a better idea of what the first names are, and vice versa. In some cases, anyway...

Mine says '8'. I, too, distrust their data, because I know there's at least 10 according to facebook. I even managed to find a woman with my fist, middle, and last online.

I also got "1 or fewer".

I like how people skipped entirely over the part where they say it's based on statistics, not a list of hundreds of millions of people (ouch db hit), and cite Facebook.
