Reply to this meme by yelling 'WORDS!', and I will give you five words that remind me of you.
Then post them in your journal and explain what they mean to you.
Keep in mind that if I don't know you that well, your words might end up kind of esoteric/oblique.

You'll only get five words if you do include 'WORDS!' in a reply to this post, meaning you can safely comment (should you wish to do so) without having to play.

I got words from both [livejournal.com profile] dragonessa24 and [livejournal.com profile] nix_101, so here's nine words. Not ten, as they both gave me California to talk about.

1. California and The Ocean

California became the 31st state in 1850 when...

Oh, that's not what you meant? Let me start out by saying one thing: Some people have irrational hatreds for races of people, say, or types of food. I hate palm trees. They are evil, odd things that have a habit of falling over on people and cars during storms. They loom like spiky gargoyles sitting on tall wooden towers and I don't like them at all.

This hatred probably comes from growing up in Southern California. They're fucking everywhere.

Observe:

Largely, I think that Southern California isn't a bad place. The weather's nice (when it's not wet). I say Southern California because, as any Californian will probably tell you, California can be separated into three completely different states: Southern California, Central California, and Northern California. I love Northern California, with its cool weather and redwoods...Southern California is largely where all of the California stereotypes come from. Surfer dudes and shallow folks abound!

The ocean is salty and sandy and big. And boogie boarding is fun. Though...there were a few years there where every time I'd go to the beach it would try to kill me. I've been near the ocean often since, but I haven't actually been in it for a few years.

If it was my choice, I'm not sure that I'd still be living here in San Diego, but I definitely wouldn't mind living elsewhere in California. There are some truly beautiful places, and wonderful people here.

2. Art

I like drawing things. I've liked drawing things for...forever, really. As a kid I wanted to be a book illustrator.
I put together this last year or so, showing the progression of my drawing skills (trying to pull the most anatomically accurate drawing of a person I could find that I also knew when I'd drawn it...at one point I was drawing nothing but animals, so...no people for that one):

3. Fitz

Fitz Kreiner, fictional character from the world of Doctor Who. I love him to bits. I run the comm devoted to him ([livejournal.com profile] act_three, btw. You know you want to join). I've got a special tag for him. I RP him.

The universally fan-cast Callum Blue:

Originally from early 60's London, he's a cigarette addicted, guitar playing, vaguely bisexual dispenser of awesomeness. Basically, he's a gigantic woobie, and a generally lovable and funny guy (though the funny is really equal parts laughing-at and laughing-with).

Playing him is pretty self indulgent for me. XD

4. German and linguistics

I'm learning German. It's an interesting language. Even if Mark Twain didn't think so. I've always been interested in language and words, so studying linguistics seems to be a natural extension of that. ...But I'll have to wait and see if I actually like it once I get into the nitty-gritty of it.

5. 5

The Fifth Doctor is pretty much the only reason I got into Doctor Who (initially). I'd gone back to the very beginning, but I wasn't really feeling it, so I skipped ahead to Five's era and ended up watching from there all the way through to the TV Movie. And then I was stuck as a Whovian! There's something very appealing about the Fifth Doctor, and I don't just mean that he's pretty. There are a lot of contrasts to him. He looks young and charming, but at the same time he's one of the most reserved, and ocassionally one of the darkest doctors.

6. The Coat of Many Colors

I want one.

7. Guildenstern

From the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. He's sort of the big brother of the pair. And he doesn't think or speak like a normal person. Probably because he was written by Tom Stoppard. He runs analytical circles around himself and never quite catches on to what's going on or becomes aware of their inevitable and reoccurring deaths and fictional natures. Of course, both he and Rosencrantz are adorable and fun throughout.

I also RP him, which has been a mind-breaking and brilliant experience.
