Fitz Read-Along and School Panic
Nov. 10th, 2009 10:40 pmFirst of all, flist, are you interested in Fitz but know nothing about him? I'm gauging interest in an EDA read-along, so if you're interested, head over to act_three and put in a word!
As for me-
I've spent today figuring out what classes I'll be taking next semester, and I think I'll be able to fit them all in to graduate with my AA in English (emphasis in creative writing!) after the semester. ...and I have to figure out how to file for graduation since there's no information on the website.
Those classes will (hopefully) be:
Intro to Physics (with a lab) - fills the sciences requirement and doesn't require higher mathematics or protective eyewear. Physicsphysicsphysicsphysicsphysicsphysics phyyyyyysics physics.
Mythology - I e-mailed the professor when I was thinking of taking this class a couple semesters ago and expressed my worries about her textbook, which I've heard is largely inaccurate. She never responded to me...so I hope that she doesn't remember my name.
British Literature II - with the same teacher I took before, who is actually English and a good teacher...even though he called me Susan once (I am not called Susan).
Interpersonal Communication - a requirement which I have to re-take because I missed a major assignment while I had a fever of 103 and was coughing up a lung a couple weeks ago. (And he wouldn't give me an extension on the dang thing either.)
Self-Defense for Women - (not sure why just women. Can't guys learn to kick guys in the balls too?) with the same teacher I'm taking T'ai Chi from this semester, and is actually practical as well as filling the fitness requirement.
I also need to figure out if 1) I can get into a four year institution and 2) if I can afford it without taking out massive loans. The answer to both of these questions is most likely no, given that California colleges are currently restricting admissions, I'm not a particularly desirable candidate, and I have no money. :|

Also, looking up synonyms for "reverie" today I thought this was slightly odd:
An antonym of "reverie" is nightmare, but an antonym of "daydream" is reality? Does that mean that, since the definition of "reverie" is "daydream", its antonyms are both "nightmare" and "reality"?
My tenuous Maxil backstory, since a couple of you asked (Sorry, does not include any Bayban references. That's in his future, duh.):
He was gullible. When he was little, he believed every ghost story and legend that his parents told him. He trusted his parents; his father's strict rules and his mother's disappointment, and the last thing he wanted to do was fail in front of them or any other authority figure.
Early on he figured out that he could bully people into doing what he wanted, and so he did. His mother discouraged it, trying instead to get him to reach out and understand people and their motivations, to use manipulation rather than force, but he found that too hard to do. Someone once convinced him to circumvent the rules, but he got caught and couldn't talk his way out of it. He thought he'd failed, and vowed to never do so again.
He never had a gift for understanding people, and so he abandoned the idea completely. Instead, he decided to follow the rules as closely as he could, otherwise he knew that he'd end up failing. When he began to be promoted, he figured that this was vindication of his method and kept to it. He likes the idea of being in authority, because that means he gets to make the rules. As such, he has an innate hatred for anyone like the Doctor who circumvents the rules and succeeds while doing it.

Also, Izzy is adorable and perfectly geeky.
If you haven't heard enough about it already...Company of Friends came out today and I bought it. And Fitz is brilliant. And very Fitz. And HUGS.
Now weighing how much fun it would be to play Fitz at BRB_Gallifrey versus the fact that I've only read a handful of his novels.

Sort of okay week
Jul. 26th, 2009 12:00 amOkay, so while most of San Diego geekdom is at ComicCon, I have been at home. AT HOME.
What I did do this week:
I visited the allergist doctor (Yes, I had to go back and re-type doctor with a lower-case d). I don't like him much because he's touchy-feely and likes to stare at my boobs...and he made me wait around for an hour. Anyway, he thinks that I'm not having an allergic reaction to anything AT ALL, but in fact have some sort of virus that's gone systemic. That means that my body will fight it off on it's own - which seems like it might be the case since the bumps on my legs are nearly all gone.
I also got books in the mail for three of my classes, the anthropology book looks interesting and informative, the world history book looks like a standard textbook, and the interpersonal communication textbook looks like it was written in some sort of cuddly, ineffectual-quote ridden hell. All around, pretty much what I'd expected.
Also, I updated my lovely Fitz commact_three with a new banner and a slightly new look. The old banner was bugging me because it didn't look like Fitz to me, but this one does. Also, go join if you haven't!
And tomorrow, I get to meetfaience!

I didn't get the job at the casino. Not even a second interview! Ah well. They sent me a very impersonal form letter that hadn't even been signed by anyone. :/ Maybe I'll throw myself around to the local bookstores and see if I can get a job
For the past couple weeks we've had a woman staying in the house. I've known this woman my entire life. She's the one who, upon my birth, convinced my mother to switch my intended first and middle names - much to my later dismay, and now she's staying with us while she does some work. I'll say briefly: this woman is all the things that annoy me about my mother turned up to eleven. She's extremely extroverted, incredibly tidy, snores like a dying yak, and says things like "libary" without notice. She's also incredibly nice and does the dishes, so I can't complain, but I have tended to stay up later at night or hide away in my room so I can get some time to myself. This has totally whacked out my sleep schedual. I suppose I'm just not used to it yet. ...And I don't know how long she's staying, so I may have to.
In more pleasant news, my new laptop is supposed to show up tomorrow. Yay.
Also, I've been reading through the EDA's with Fitz in (I figure that I should read his canon if I run a comm for the guy!) and would just like to say that Unnatural History is complete and utter crack. I can no longer say I haven't read a book in which someone has been mugged by a unicorn on the streets of San Francisco.
-The poll tells me you guys don't mind fan writing here, so here it will stay, along with everything else. I'll get around to posting those I haven't already posted and I think a links post...uh...later.
-I'm famous! Okay...not really.
-Everyone wants a job in a basement with books. We must be able to set something up.
-I've got clothes and everything ready for the non-basement/books job interview Friday. This includes uncomfortable closed toe heels. Grumble.
-Two finals tomorrow and then one on Monday.
-I made an icon out of my Six/Rani scribble. It is up there. And ridiculous.
-I'm famous! Okay...not really.

Notes and a Rant

- I wrote some angst-o-rama Red Dwarf fic. It currently resides over here atreddwarfslash.
- My English teacher is requiring spectacularly anal levels of organization to go into this research paper.
This includes: Cards for every single piece of information that might be used within the essay with what source it came from and a letter denoting whether it was a direct quote or paraphrase. Those cards are to be separated into used and unused. Also, citation cards (and a Works Cited at the back of the paper), multiple rough drafts, and, for every source, photocopies of the actual pages that I got the information from along with a photocopy of the copyright page. All of that, along with the final draft, are to be sealed into a manila envelope when the assignment is due.
Really. What the shit is that all about? This is an advanced English class. I don't think there really needs to be such extensive precautions taken against plagiarism, if that's what this is. I just think the teacher is an anal pedant.
I don't organize that way! I'd rather just write the damn thing.
Man, I'm going to lose all of those fricken cards.

Second: I figured with Fitz Kreiner soon to be existing not only in the Eighth Doctor Adventures books, that it was about damn time he had a comm of his own. So I made one. It's not really up yet, butact_three will be it. Does the name work? It is a reference to Fitz' first book, but maybe that's not clear. I don't know. If anyone has another idea for the comm name let me know.
